EStablished in 1992
Camp Reynal was started in 1992 by dedicated volunteers, parents and healthcare professionals, all of whom shared the common goal to create an exciting, challenging, encouraging, supportive, safe and healthy environment for children with renal and urology disease, and to foster fun, growth, exploration, discovery, friendship, self-esteem and independence. Through support from corporate, individual, and foundation donors, Camp Reynal has provided an important and successful camping experience to over 1,500 children since 1992. Camp Reynal is one of the few camps in the United States that provides on-site dialysis.
Camp Reynal is a 6-day residential camp program provided by the National Kidney Foundation to provide a true summer camp experience for children with renal and urology disease. Camp Reynal is hosted by Camp John Marc, at their state-of-the-art therapeutic camping facility near Meridian, Texas. Doctors, Nurses, and other specialists are provided by Children's Medical Center Dallas, Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, and The Children's Hospital of San Antonio.
We accept approximately 100 campers, who stay in air-conditioned cabins with trained volunteer cabin counselors. Three counselors are assigned to 6 or 7 campers in each cabin. The campgrounds have been designed to be completely accessible with a specially trained staff. Days at camp are filled with swimming, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, arts and crafts, photography, dance, singing, sports and games, and other fun activities. Summer camp helps build independence and confidence. It allows these children the opportunity to interact with others with the same medical diagnosis, thus addressing issues of isolation and self-esteem. Camp Reynal offers a nurturing setting for peer interactions, adventure, and new challenges. It will thus hopefully encourage self-responsibility and confidence in their own abilities.
